<p>The Octopus card for the Hong Kong subway is a great way to save money on public transport in Hong Kong.</p>
<p>An Octopus card costs 50 HKD as an initial deposit, most of which you will get back at the end of your trip when you return it.</p>
<p>You can purchase an Octopus card in any Hong Kong subway station.</p>
<p>The deposit for an Octopus card is 150 HKD.  The card will allow you to get a discount on a regular fare on the Hong Kong subway.</p>
<p>The Octopus card can also be used on the famous Star Ferry between Kowloon Bay and Hong Kong.</p>
<p>Octopus cards can be used for non-transport purposes as well.  For example, you can use your Octopus card to pay for small items in many coffee shops in Hong Kong.</p>
